Despite what plenty of people say; even if it makes no sense; your AO Map should go ABOVE all decal and paint layers. See here:

For vehicles that either don't have an AO map or don't have a good AO map, I reccomend making a solid black layer on top of all layers and choosing an opacity between 13-20%.
